A Big Update: We’re in Alaska! (Sunday 7/16/23)

Today marks day number 56 since we left home. We are now in Juneau, Alaska, with over 1,400 miles of sailing behind us, and many more on the horizon. Words and photos are not adequate to summarize our experience thus far. This has been the most visceral, mind blowing, incredible, challenging and beautiful experience. We have met the most amazing people, making new friends and connections with like minded adventurous humans. We’ve learned our boat is rather small compared to, well, probably everyone that is doing this trip. The scenery has been stunning, the water humbling, and the wildlife spectacular. We are so grateful to have had this experience and made all of these memories we know we will remember for the rest of our lives. And it's not over yet!

The blogging has obviously taken a backseat. I’ve been posting more on instagram but even then I’m weeks behind. Eventually, we’ll get all caught up, but we are prioritizing being present and soaking up every moment. If there's one thing we've learned to embrace, this trip is all about the journey, not the destination.

Here are just a few of the highlights from our journey so far:

Gulf Islands: Wallace Island

Strait of Georgia: Mitlenatch Island Nature Park

The blind to observe the Glaucous-winged Gulls on their nests!

Desolation Sound: Roscoe Bay

North Coast of British Columbia:

Pruth Bay and the Hakai Institute

Fiordlands Conservancy

Bishop Bay Hot Springs

Alaska:

Anan Bear Sanctuary

Tracy Arm, North and South Sawyer Glaciers (wow!!)

(Can you find Meadowlark amidst the icebergs?)

We'll definitely share more as we make more time to do so in the coming weeks. We plan to start our return journey southward in about week and a half. We will see how far we can make it south with the boat before I have to return to work... details are still pretty up in the air! Here's to hoping for those prevailing northwesterlies to stick around and continued fair weather!
